General Summary:

Retail Credit Risk Governance is charged with creation and management of the oversight structure for credit risk in BBVA Compass’s retail lending portfolios. The successful candidate for this position will serve as the Program & Policy Specialist for Retail Credit Risk Management, leading efforts to ensure that the bank’s underwriting policies, operating policies, and credit criteria closely reflect the risk appetite and desired risk profile established by senior management and expected by our regulators

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Policy Documentation & Communication : develop new and revise existing credit risk policy documentation in coordination with senior management, line of business, and legal & regulatory compliance control partners; work with technical partners and risk managers to ensure that implementation of policy changes accurately reflects approved risk appetite.

  • Lending Program Management : work with partners in our global holding company to ensure lending program compliance with global expectations; proactively become knowledgeable of policies and procedures governing the department’s activities and impact/interaction to other teams within the Bank

  • Program Research and Transformation : lead quantitative and qualitative research efforts and provide recommendations to team members of policy proposals and initiatives; proactively identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve governance processes and routines and strategic insight to the department; researches assigned problems and projects where required outcomes are defined, but methods and procedures may vary based on professional judgment or precedent; proactively identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve governance processes and routines and strategic insight to the department



  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in policy, procedure, documentation and technical writing or equivalent work experience (such as legal writing or qualitative audit) required.

  • Four-year college degree in a field providing relevant experience in writing and research. Advanced degree (such as a Juris Doctor) or professional certification (such as CPA) strongly preferred.

  • A confident written and verbal communicator who has demonstrated the ability to share ideas and influence others, removing barriers and improving organizational effectiveness. Spanish fluency preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills; demonstrated skills in critical thinking, attention to detail and problem solving.

  • Highly proficient in time management, planning and prioritization; ability to manage changing priorities

  • Flexibility and good humor to work as part of a dynamic team in an ever-changing environment
