Responsibilities

HR Partner -- Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB)

Establish strategic partnership and consultation for several Front Office (Revenue Producing) Lines of business within the Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) global division with employees in New York, Alabama and Texas.

Work in partnership with other HR colleagues to develop and implement human resources processes and programs for designated front office LOBs including but not limited to: performance management, organizational development, talent management, learning and development, advancement and the compensation review process.

Partner closely with HR specialist areas e.g. Compensation, Immigration, Recruiting, and Training & Development in Birmingham, Houston, New York and Madrid to help advance strategic initiatives in support of business goals.

Coordinate and implement Global Talent Development HR Processes such as Performance Rating, Performance Evaluation, Promotions, Succession Planning, etc, as well as control the reporting of HR Analytics to ensure accuracy with head office.

Major/Essential Job Duties :

  • Advise and influence all levels of management on the aspects of people-management and leadership with a focus on performance management, organizational development & effectiveness.

  • Facilitate organization change as required by the business.

  • Coordinate with corporate HR Spain, New York, Birmingham, and other HR units the conditions of employment for employees that are transfered to NY, Alabama & Texas locations.

  • Manage internal recruitment for New York Office, Alabama and Texas for designated CIB business units in partnership with HRBPs from other divisions and external recruitment.

  • Partner with business leaders to develop people objectives and plans.

  • In partnership with Compensation team or as a stand-alone support, provide consultation and responses to inquiries on Compensation, serve as a reference for salary recommendations for internal and external candidates, and perform job evaluations.

  • Implement and coordinate all NY and Compass CIB processes related to performance evaluation process from development of objectives to final evaluations, competency evaluations and performance ratings while upholding relevant Compass practices.

  • Consult with managers on performance issues (including terminations, grievances, etc.), staffing plans and strategies, promotions and other issues while maintaining employee advocacy role

  • Counsel and guide employees on various topics (grievances, terminations, etc.) as well as regarding specific career situations while maintaining employer advocacy role.

  • Create annual HR CIB budget exercise in partnership with New York and other key areas of CIB USA such CFO or Business Development.

  • Coordinate and implement Global Talent Development HR Processes such as Performance Rating, Performance Evaluation, Promotions, Succession Planning, etc.

  • Control and manage HRIS information systems to ensure local accuracy within the New York office and BBVA Compass while maintaining consistency with head office in Madrid.

  • Manage ad-hoc requests and projects such as: HR related transactions (terminations, new hires, internal transfer), Report generation (headcount, turnover, vacancy requisitions, compensation) and other projects and responsibilities as necessary.

Level of Complexity and Risk Involved :

This position deals with a wide scope of issues and problems that add to the complexity and scope of this position. Responsible for assessing and diagnosing a wide variety of people-related business problems ranging from technical HR matters, policies and procedures to individual employee relations and legal issues, and for facilitating the development of solutions.

In addition to BBVA’s heavily matrix Global organization, its multiples local vehicles/different legal entities within the US footprint (e.g. BBVA S.A, BBVA Compass, BBVA Securities) add an extra layer of complexity to this position.

Exposed to very sensitive business and personal information and documents.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology/Human Resources, or Business Administration (with specific HR education).

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a human resources function in a fast-paced, global environment

  • Previous direct experience (or strong technical knowledge) of core Human Resources areas such as Compensation, Recruitment, Training, Talent Management, Employee Relations and Immigration.

  • Strong knowledge of Investment Banking or related business to consult on organizational development/talent.

  • Excellent communication skills: Able to provide clear, concise information to others in verbal, written, electronic, and other communication formats. Able to summarize ideas and deliver concise messages in a persuasive way. Leads effective and efficient meetings/presentations

  • Very strong Relationship Management skills: ability to proactively build and maintain trusting relationships with all organizational stakeholders through credibility, reliability, effective responsiveness, and efficient communication.

  • Outstanding critical evaluation (Sound Judgment): Able to makes sound decisions based on evaluation of available information, seeking input and applying critical system-thinking perspective to make effective recommendations

  • Business Acumen: Able to demonstrate an understanding of the strategic relationship between effective human resource management and core business functions. Ability to align HR strategy, goals, and objectives to overall business strategy and objectives, while understanding organizational metrics and their correlation to business success.

  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong MS Office technical skills, including significant experience using Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel

  • Fluency in Spanish desired

  • Ability to multitask.

  • Outstanding ability to work as part of a global team
