The Head of IS will be responsible to provide overall leadership and execution of the New York Office.

A critical component of the role will be to ensure that the Information Security strategy is aligned with requirements coming from BBVA Global CIB unit (Corporate and Investment Banking), BBVA US and New York Office, showing outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills to manage different stakeholders across the global, US and local organization.

Other key responsibilities will include branch compliance with key regulations on all levels with regard to information security and cyber defense and full responsibility for the security operations in the branch. The candidate will have two reporting lines, through BBVA US Information Security and Engineering / IT unit for Corporate and Investment Banking.


  • Develop, execute and maintain an Information Security Program for NYB and its alignment with global and local information security strategies.

  • Lead periodic penetration testing and risk assessments

  • Hands-on leadership of security control appliances and services: anti-malware, network access controls, SIEM, etc.

  • Lead Vulnerability Management program, Identity access Management and user access recertification process

  • Primary responsible and interface to all internal audit related to cybersecurity in the branch

  • Participation in Management Committees as required to present Information security status.

  • Build and track KRI and KPIs related to information security and provide periodically overview of leadership in regard to main performance metrics

  • Oversee Project Management for all information security initiatives

  • Maintain current understanding and skills related to cybersecurity and defense

  • Supports Department Managers and Business Units in the execution of their responsibilities.

  • Facilitates third-party audit reviews of internal departments and reports results to management and security oversight committees

  • Performs security monitoring and follow-up on incidents. Reports exceptions to senior management when necessary.

  • Investigate, evaluate, document and correct actual or potential security exposures when identified and make recommendations for corrective action to senior management and / or Head Office.


  • At least 8 years working experience within information security in a similar position

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a similar Financial Services organization orTechnology Company supporting the Financial Services industry preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work with all levelsof employees including C-level.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and influence skills

  • Excellent judgment and the ability to make quick decisions when working with complex situations.

  • Working knowledge of DFS-500 Cybersecurity Regulation

  • Preferred Bilingual English - Spanish
