What does the job entail?
Plays a key role supporting the strategic and operational needs of BBVA New Digital Business (NDB) New Ventures as we drive a portfolio of new ventures from ideation to commercialization.
Drive venture creation process, manage business development efforts, and lead project management function and monitoring of the portfolio of new businesses.
Lead specific strategy and operational work streams, support and advise to create new business models, conduct opportunity assessments, and prepare investment memoranda for senior leadership approval and seed funding.
Participate in strategy sessions, research distillation and technology assessments to form a coherent synthesis of the business opportunity and determine KPIs for Alpha and Beta versions of new products.
Work closely with the Venture Creation, Legal, Compliance, Tax, Audit, Market Development, Corporate Development, Design, Marketing and Product teams to ensure successful implementation of new businesses.
Improve and strengthen existing processes and communication between the NDB market development and new ventures teams.
Develop and codify New Venture Creation playbook, document best practices and processes from ideation to investment committee to build/incubation.
Responsible for strict adherence to all compliance and regulatory requirements as well as department policies and procedures.
Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS, etc.) in a related field required with Five (5) years of strategy consulting, business operations and/or start-up experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

NBM&S is looking for a skilled professional to become part of a team that defines, articulates and carries out the NBM&S’ efforts in the US and Latin America, carry out Partnership Business Development of technology companies in all geographies where the BBVA group has a presence as well as monitor and participate in market developments.
Primary responsibilities include:
Strategy development: Support the SF Office head with providing key insights for the definition of the NBM&S US strategy and new strategic initiatives, working closely with NBM&S and BBVA Strategy teams.
● Market development: Actively engage in San Francisco fintech/techfin communities develop internal partnerships across the different lines of business within the BBVA footprint, source potential investments, adhering to the strategic development criteria.
Research and analysis: Identify and keep track of fintech landscape evolution, customer and technology trends and key players’ movements in San Francisco. Build insightful benchmarks and extract conclusions and implications for NBM&S.
● Hands-on contributor: Support with presentations for top management, internal NBM&S and BBVA discussions as well as external presentations that contribute in building BBVA’s digital reputation, as well as knowledge transfer from San Francisco to the rest of BBVA geographies and personnel.
The ideal candidate will bring in terms of:
● 5 to 10 years of market development and strategy experience in fintech/techfin
● Experience in management consulting and/or C-level office in big corporations is a plus ● Experience within a top tech or financial services company is also desired
Excellent communicator, ability to build relationships both internally and across different affiliated companies
● Proven market /business development track record in:
Relationship building - initiating contacts, navigating internal structures, developing relationships
Identifying opportunities understanding the action ability, managing them and bringing them to a close and prior experience managing a pipeline of partners
Highly data driven and process-oriented; ability to measure results
Ability to understand basic contract language in support of working business agreements with internal legal team
Familiarity with fintech model’s existing building networks
● Bachelor's degree
● MBA is a plus
● Fluent in English and Spanish
● Proven superior structured thinking and analytical rigor
● Ability to work autonomously and independently and lead initiatives and work streams
● Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and short deadlines
Experience and/or deep understanding of payment rails such as ACH, Wires, Visa Direct, Bill Pay as well as cross border payments
● Interpersonal skills and team player
